The Name

Your identity is mine to keep.

From the cradle to the grave,

You borrow me.

I am the word that is you.

You, are me.

I, am you.

I can be more than one.

When God said to Moses, “I am that I am”,

Om, Ehyeh, Allah – all became one.

Gandhi became Mahatma.

Agnes became Teresa.

Goyathlay became Geronimo.

I am many, not one.

But except you,

There are none.

I am yours to keep.

Everyone has me,

Has had me, will have me.

If not for me,

You would be her or him, she or he.

That has made you, you, is me.
